Angela Gunter has been faithfully painting since 2014, but has worked in various creative fields, such as traditional special effects for movies and television in Europe, sometimes puppeteering on set. As a teenager, she was airbrushing T-shirts at the flea market while her peers were nursing their hangovers.
She lives in Greensboro, NC, with her amazing husband, daughter, and dog, loves to grow herbs for the kitchen and do yoga for alleviation and all around well-being.
Primarily working in 2-D, Angela loves to experiment with realism and "Augmented Realism," painting from life, photography, and dreams.
Since Covid, Angela reassessed where her focus was, and realigned her energy into creating a series of gallery level work. She is seeking Gallery Representation, online, in person, or both.
*SOLD* Downtown in December, Greensboro, North Carolina. Painted in December of 2019 before all hell broke loose. Before we knew what was to come. To the left in the painting is the Tanger Performing Arts Center, which had been slated to make it's Grand Opening in March 2020. The village was abuzz with talk of tickets of Lion King, Cats, and Wicked.
It was an overcast, micro-drizzly day that shrouded the crowns of buildings in low hanging clouds. I remember thinking to myself, I've brought a bit of Seattle here. Everything was quiet, cozy and comforting, despite the weather. I took over a hundred shots that day, appearing in my studio drenched head to toe and excited for my material. I knew exactly what I would paint, and it came out just as I had envisioned it. As artists, we know these perfect outcomes don't happen as often as we would like. It has been a comforting anchor during the last year and a half.
Close up of "Blue Plate Special." Watercolor and Gouache, 2020. 9.5in x 12.5in.(AKA: Red Argentinian on Blue Danube).
My Father is a retired Navy Captain. We share a great love of the ocean and its seafood. One day he surprised me with a huge box of fresh seafood shipped overnight to my doorstep. Grabbing my favorite plate, I made quick history of both the painting and the delicious dinner.
Angela has multiple hurdles which have provided her challenges - Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's Disease, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Connective Tissue Disorder, and recovery from Endomtriosis and Fibroid Tumors. Despite flare-ups, pain days, medication and a strict diet, she paints despite the pain - and looks forward to creating JOY and BEAUTY everywhere she goes. Life is much too short to live otherwise. Embrace!
